Peppermint Tea Also Recalled in Canada

By Dan Flynn and Suzanna Schreck

ADVERTISEMENTS
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume certain Organic Peppermint Herbal Teas sold by the Metropolitan Tea Company because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The affected product is part of the recall in the United States of tea produced by Aromatics Inc. of Basin City, WA. The affected tea was also distributed in Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, Ontario, and may have been distributed nationally.
The CFIA said it is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to identify and recall all affected herbal tea products imported into Canada from the USA. If more products are identified, the CFIA will continue to update its list.
To see the size, upc and code numbers of the Metropolitan Tea Co. tea affected by the recall, go to the CFIA website.  Metropolitan Tea Co. products purchased prior to Dec. 25, 2010 are not affected by the alert, CFIA said.
Also, some of the organic peppermint tea identified in the CFIA list may have been repackaged into smaller sized units with no label information. CFIA advises that if you have purchased Organic Peppermint teas, and are unsure if you have the recalled product, check with your place of purchase to verify if it is subject to the recall.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the peppermint tea.
