Can Law School Be Fun? W&L Welcomes New Asst. Dean

By Anne Skove, Esq.

ADVERTISEMENTS

Did you have any fun whatsoever in law school, did you learn how to bring more to the party, or did you just break out in hives?

We're here to tell you that law school can be fun, enjoyable, and useful not only to students but to members of the community. That's what happens when you have a clinic run by Mary Z. Natkin. For years, she's been the heart and soul of W&L's clinics. From mental health to black lung and all the programs in between, Mary was the go-to person. She was responsible for the clinic admissions process (it was competitive), debriefed students (woo!) after client meetings, and served as a guiding force in many other ways.

Oh, and she also lets first-years (and anyone else, really) cry on her shoulder, laughs at your jokes, loans cigarettes, writes letters of recommendation, picks up the phone when your summer job isn't going too well, and let kids set up a lemonade stand in the office.

Finally, W&L was smart enough to dub her Assistant Dean for Clinical Education and Public Service! Suddenly and all-clinic environment, W&L needs someone who knows the territory. Their new curriculum depends on it, and they could ask for no one better than Miss Zanolli.

We hope this new position translates into an office without cinder blocks and without a drive-thru window, although we think she truly enjoys being the "crazy aunt in the basement." We know we do.
