When you hit-n-run, after they catch you, it's all but done.

When you hit and run the assumption is you're as guilty as sin for something.

After an accident if you want to dig a hole really really really deep, then right after the collision drive away from the accident scene. That will certainly dig a good sized hole. After you are caught you may think it's not that big a deal but it is. People automatically go to believing you were drunk and drove away to avoid the consequences. It's as if there is a presumption against your innocence and certainly for the driver being negligent that gets fixed in peoples minds.

In Council Bluffs a car ran threw a stop sign, hit two motorcycles and then failed to stop. One of the motorcycles caught on fire. One motorcycle passenger was thrown into a tree and died. Now granted neither were wearing helmets but under Iowa law they didn't have to wear helmets. So that isn't going to save you. Police in this instance tracked down the Nebraska hit-n-run driver and filed various charges against the man, including drunk driving charges. This is not going to be any easier for you, trust me.
