And The Winner Is . . .

. . . the constitution of the United States.

Once again, We The People have peacefully transferred the power to lead our country. That event, each time it happens, is nothing short of a miracle.

Teddy White, one of our greatest political writers, who spoke so eloquently about the passing of the mantle of leadership to a new generation in 1960, once said, "There is no excitement anywhere in the world, short of war, to match the excitement of the American presidential campaign."

And this campaign was perhaps the most exciting and improbable of them all.

Every American can be proud of that beautiful idea of government we call our constitution. In its short Preamble are our aspirations as a nation:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
