: P.I.S.S.D. -- Personal Injury, Social Security DisabilityToy Stores Scramble to Comply With Lead Law
By Robert Kraft
The AP (2/10, Anderson) reports, "Toy stores across the country scrambled Monday to abide by tough new lead and chemical standards for toys that go into effect on Tuesday" and "many toy sellers pulled questionable items off their shelves after a judge last week nixed a delay that would have given them a 12-month reprieve." A toy store owner in Atlanta, Dennis Hofsteter said, "It's a great law that's being implemented terribly."
The Wall Street Journal (2/10, Pereira, Trottman) reports, "The nation's largest retailers made an 11th-hour appeal to Congress to roll back part of a children's-product safety law that takes effect Tuesday, warning that the cost of compliance would lead to more retail layoffs and cause small toymakers to close" following "a ruling Thursday in U.S. District Court in New York that the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act applies to retailers' current inventories, and not just new merchandise."
From the American Association for Justice news release.
