Death Penalty Ban Alive

That's the title of an editorial in the Thursday edition of Montana's Helena Independent Record.  LINKAfter years of failed efforts to do away with Montana?s death penalty, it was good to see this year?s version pass out of committee for a full debate on the Senate floor.And it should be a wide-ranging debate. While many Montanans adamantly contend that capital punishment is immoral or whole-heartedly back it, many more remain ambivalent.Nobody wants to see an innocent person convicted, let alone put to death ? a circumstance that DNA testing is finding all too common ? but there remains a wide-spread feeling that there are some crimes so shocking and heinous that death is an appropriate sentence.
