By Sherri Oslick -- Thrasos Therapeutics, a Hopkinton, MA based biotechnology company, announced earlier this week the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 7,482,329 ("Single Domain TDF-Related Compounds and Analogs Thereof," issued January 27, 2009) directed to small molecules that selectively activate the key receptors of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family. BMPs are part of the TGF-? superfamily of proteins, and are implicated, via the SMAD signaling pathway, in the reduction and control of inflammation and fibrosis and in the prevention of apoptosis in many different cells, tissues, and organs.
