Patent Law

Proteostasis Therapeutics is seeking an Intellectual Asset Manager. Primary responsibility for developing and ensuring the protection of the company?s patent, trade secret and other IP assets.

Responsibilities:
? Work closely with outside patent counsel and scientists in the preparation, prosecution and management of the company?s patent portfolio.  Monitor patent applications? progress and expenses.
? Monitor the intellectual property of third parties to identify freedom to operate issues and collaboration or acquisition opportunities.   Manage and assist outside patent counsel with intellectual property opinion work and intellectual property landscaping efforts.
? Develop and manage internal processes to identify and protect the company?s inventions, trade secrets and confidential information.  Supervise scientific notebook documentation process.
? Manage company publication policy and review proposed publications in advance of disclosure to identify patentable subject matter for preparation of patent application(s).
? Assist in drafting nondisclosure, research, license and other agreements involving the use, transfer, or ownership of IP and manage compliance of these agreements.
? Participate in due diligence with outside counsel and manage outside counsel in the evaluation and defense of IP portfolios and assets.
? Chair quarterly patent committee meetings to make filing/prosecution decisions in coordination with scientific and commercial input.

Requirements:
? J.D. degree and advanced degree in a life sciences discipline is required. A Ph.D. is preferred.
? 3-5 years of in-house experience in patent preparation and prosecution in a Biotech or Pharma corporate setting or in a law firm setting servicing such clients.
? Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is not required.

Knowledge and Skills:
? Excellent writing, analytical and communication skills.
? Organized, independent, detailed oriented, capable of working under pressure and on multiple tasks.
? Enthusiastic and works well in a team environment.
? Solid understanding of the application of scientific IP to achieving business objectives.
