McConnell Leaves the Federal Bench

This is really surprising. Judge Michael McConnell, one of the most widely respected judges in the country, is leaving the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals and returning to academia. He has accepted a position at the Stanford Law School, where he will direct the Stanford Constitutional Law Center.

McConnell is considered one of the foremost experts on church and state law and is enormously well respected on both sides of the divide over that issue. He is one of those rare people who has achieved the legal trifecta of being considered one of the best as a scholar, an advocate and a judge.
