Washington Car Crash Kills Couple from Vancouver and Critically injures Son

A five-year-old Vancouver boy and his parents were in a serious car accident in Washington on Sunday near Chelan. The boy is in critical condition in a Seattle hospital and the crash claimed the life of his parents.

Washington State Trooper Dave Phelps said that the boy was airlifted from the scene to the Harborview Medical Center following the accident that happened shortly after 7 p.m. on Highway 97A, south of Chelan. His parents, ages 50 and 35, died in the crash.

The family was heading south on the two-lane highway when another car, heading in the opposite direction, crossed into their lane.

?We believe excessive speed might have been a factor in the crash,? said Phelps. The speed limit on the highway is 60 mph.

He said there was no initial indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.

The driver of the other car was critically injured and was taken to Central Washington Hospital.

The child was sitting in a car seat. But neither his parents nor the driver of the other car were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, said Phelps.
