Tasered Man Bursts Into Flames in Sydney; Cops Yell, Hooray for Our Side!

By Steve Lombardi

ADVERTISEMENTS

Here is the May 4, 1970 when students died at Kent State University protesting the War in Vietnam, which supposedly was never a 'war'. So now I have to ask myself, have the protesters become the establishment against whom they protested?

It's true; a man in Sydney running towards police with a container of fuel was tasered and then burst into flames. The man, Ronald Mitchell is in critical condition. Afterwards his sister threw rocks at the arresting officer. The police say it may have been the lighter the man was carrying that ignited the gasoline. Of course getting Tasered may have triggered an involuntary muscle reflex which could cause him to flick his Bic.

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid

Of course here is the one I still don't understand; this looks like a Communist Country suppressing free speech.

I have no clue with this University of Florida student is saying but what does he do that justifies an arrest and Tasering? In the 60's and 70's it occurred to us that university campuses were supposed to be a place where free speech allowed new ideas to flourish. Apparently in this decade we Taser those with ideas we don't like. And why did John Kerry sit there not coming to his defense? He calls himself a Democrat?

The generation's following mine (I was born in 1954) need to think about all the money we are spending on bombs and bullets and how those dollars spent drain our economy. Your generations need to reconsider how to combat terrorists in a much more efficient way. There's a simple reason why China has a surplus of cash and America a mountain of debt. We have to consider whether this spending on the war contributed or caused our economic collapse. I remember the economic boost this country received when the Cold War finally ended. It's shouldn't take a trillion dollars to neutralize one terrorist group. We shouldn't have to neuter Freedom of speech to advance the principles upon which this country was founded.

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
