"Texas gets bum rap on killer moms," is the title of Lisa Falkenberg's latest column.About five years ago, while reporting for The Associated Press on the case of a suburban Dallas mother who had severed her baby's arms, I got a call from a friend who had heard the news while visiting family in upstate New York. He declared he'd never marry a Texas woman for fear of what she'd do to their kids. I took the comment largely in jest at the time, and the friend couldn't have been serious since he's now happily engaged to a woman from San Antonio, but it still disturbed me.A short time later, I was assigned by a New York City-based AP editor to write a story addressing the same topic, something to the effect of why those crazy Texas women are always killing their kids...continue to full post
