'Tis the Season ... to Take Finals

ADVERTISEMENTS

This week many 1Ls are sitting for their first round of law school exams. First semester 1L exams take on mythic proportions in the job search: they help you get your 1L summer job and despite math that tells you otherwise they always manage to feel weighted to matter more than all the exams that follow.

Last week the WSJ Law Blog had a series of tips on exam prep from some of the nation's highest performing students.  The most common piece of advice was to take practice tests, but I particularly appreciated Rogan Nunn's (UVA '10)point that practice tests should be taken in a group. The value of a practice exam is not just in seeing an example of format and content, but more importantly in identifying gaps in your outline that leave you missing issues and argument. It's much harder to see that on a sample answer than in discussion about answers with your peers.

For ILs out there: the harder you work the luckier you get. Study smart and kick ass!

For your wiser upperclasswomen, consider this kind of advice a service you could provide through your on-campus women's group - be it a Ms. JD NWLSO chapter or not. I'm envisioning a Women's Coalition Mock-exam Day, complete with hot chocolate.
