Or, Mon Dieu! Thanks to reader Susan Long for sharing this Craigslist ad from a San Francisco lawyer looking for more than just a pretty face to assist him in his busy litigation practice.
Or maybe just a pretty face.
You know when an employer writes "photo appreciated but not necessary" that he really means it's necessary.
He does get a few points for trying to dress up the obligatory "sense of humor required" with a fancy big word: congenial.
But when I looked up the definition for congenial, I kind of got the creeps. It means "suitable to your needs" or "compatibility between persons."
Helloooo, this is a legal support staff position, not an ad for Match.com.
And how do you feel about an employer who asks for a head shot with your application, unless it's for a Hooters waitstaff position? (I love that Hooters describes itself on its own website as "delightfully tacky yet unrefined.")
I needed a professional head shot for this blog post, and remembered that Litination's "Associate Photo Captions" are the best. Click on the photo at the top of this post for a description of a likely candidate for this job posting.
She has a really pretty face.
P.S. If you are an especially nosey paralegal, like, say, me, you'll google this employer's email handle "Count Marco" and discover that there was a famous columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, Marco Spinelli (now deceased) who "smirkingly [instructed] San Francisco housewives on all manner of boudoir-and-bathroom behavior."
There is an art to bathing, just as there is an art to undressing. . . Step daintily into the bubble-filled tub. Mon Dieu! This is no time to bend over and test the temperature of the water . . . lower yourself in the water. Don't plop down like a baby whale. ~ Count Marco
Mon Dieu!
