ADVERTISEMENTS

massmapA couple weeks ago, we wrote this post on lawyers in the U.S. Senate. The point: there are a lot of them — some 55 or so of the 100 hold law degrees.

This much is for sure: Tuesday’s Massachusetts special election won’t do anything to alter the Senate’s lawyer count. The man whose seat is being filled — Ted Kennedy — held a law degree. Brown (Tufts, BC Law) hasn’t practiced law full time in decades; he’s served in Massachusetts state government since the mid 1980s. Coakley, the current Massachusetts AG (Williams, BU Law), practiced at a number of firms, including Goodwin Procter, before joining the district attorney’s office in 1986. From 1999 to 2007, she served as the district attorney of Middlesex County. She was elected AG in 2006.
