By John Cheves - jcheves@herald-leader.com FRANKFORT -- The General Assembly and the state courts would have to disclose details of their spending online in a bill the House State Government Committee approved Thursday. It proceeds to the full House. House Bill 492, sponsored by Rep. Johnny Bell, D-Glasgow, would require the legislative and judicial branches of state government to post the sums they spend, including what was purchased, the dates and the names of those who got the money. The executive branch in recent months has been posting such information to its own Web site, Open Door. "If we write a check on the taxpayer's money, it will go on the open Web. That's the essence of transparency," said Committee Chairman Mike Cherry, D-Princeton, a co-sponsor of the bill. Legislative and judicial branch officials told the committee they do not object to the bill.
