: SCOTUSBLOGToday at the Court
By Akin Gump Supreme Court Practice Group
The Court will release one or more opinions today starting at 10 a.m., and we will be “live” blogging them. Afterward, the Court will hear oral argument in two cases:
~10 a.m. ? In Dillon v. United States (09-6338), the Court will consider the authority of federal judges, in setting a new prison sentence, to go below the range prescribed by the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines. Troy D. Cahill of Akin Gump provided background on the case yesterday on SCOTUSblog.
~11 a.m. ? At issue in Barber v. Thomas (09-5201) is whether the phrase ?term of imprisonment? in Section 212(a)(2) of the Sentencing Reform Act unambiguously requires the computation of “good time” credits on the basis of the sentence imposed. Carl Cecere of Akin Gump previewed the case earlier for SCOTUSblog.
