Quebec: Undeclared Soy In Cabbage Rolls

By Dan Flynn and Suzanna Schreck

ADVERTISEMENTS
Soy, one of the nine most common food allergens, was not listed on the label as an ingredient in Cuisine Bernart brand cabbage rolls being sold in retail markets in Quebec.

That has brought a public warning for people with allergies to soy not to consume the Cuisine Bernart brand cabbage rolls and a recall from Cuisine Bern-Art Inc., the Quebec-based manufacturer.

The warning and recall notice is for both 325 GR and 2.27 KG Cuisine Bernart cabbage rolls with UPC numbers 6 26408 00718 4 and 6 26408 02116 6 with Best Before dates up to and including 08MA10 and 15MA10.

The affected cabbage rolls containing soy protein might have been repackaged at retail stores or sold from deli counters.

If the original product identity and Best Before code is not evident; the manufacturer advises checking with your retailer or supplier to determine if the product is affected.

The cabbage rolls were distributed only in Quebec.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to soy.

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

For more information, consumers and industry can call one of the following numbers:  Bernard Duguay (Cuisine Bern-Art Inc.) at 514-367-0228; or CFIA at 1 800 442-2342 (TTY 1 800 465-7735).
