Restaurants and Bankruptcy Cases in Arizona

By Joseph McDaniel, Esq.

ADVERTISEMENTS
Restaurants are closing at a stupidly quick pace now in Arizona, and that's making me cranky.

There was a nice place called Stuart Anderson's Black Angus Steakhouse on Camelback Road near 20th Street in Phoenix, and the food there was good.

It closed without giving me any notice recently. Did it file a bankruptcy? Don't know.

Two very cool coffee joints that also served great muffins, and provided great alternatives for places to meet friends and clients on weekends are now closed; they were called Coffee Plantation, and both were near the Black Angus that closed.

Bankruptcy for Coffee Plantation? Don't know.

And four great Greek restaurants that were started by a friend of mine. He'll be filing, I'm sure. Probably no reason to file a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy for the flat puppy restaurants.

There was a great burger joint where you could get a made-to-order buffalo burger, or a turkey burger, or a full-pound burger, and they had superlative milkshakes; it was the Fuddruckers on Highland in Phoenix.

Closed without notice; I don't know if a bankruptcy will get filed for that restaurant. I'm going to miss that place. The serving staff was pleasant, and the food was great. While there are other Fuddruckers, they aren't my Fuddruckers.

And recently I tried to call a Lazy Lou's Fish and Chips order in so I could pick it up without waiting too long. I tried to call the restaurant on Bethany Home Road. The number I tried was not in service, and I checked the number twice.

I REALLY hope that was a technical glitch; Lazy Lou's has made the best fish and chips in Phoenix since I moved here when I was five. And I'll go into withdrawal if it's gone.

I don't know if the restaurants I've talked about above are going to file bankruptcy cases. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

But I know for certain that the folks who worked at those restaurants will be put to the test; it's not as easy as you think to find work in food service in Phoenix once the temperature starts to hit 100 degrees.

And I am inordinately unhappy that those particular places have closed. I liked them all a lot, and I liked the people who worked there, and I did not like receiving the information that they were closed, whether they file bankruptcy or not.

This is a depression, and restaurants often close during depressions.

But that doesn't mean I have to like it.
