: Legal Pad | LANew presidential nominees for U.S. District Court in CA
By Richard Binder
Last week President Obama nominated three people to seats on the United States District Court. Among them are Judge Anthony Joseph Battaglia and Judge Edward J. Davila.
Judge Battaglia is a nominee for U.S. District Court, Southern District of California. He has been serving as Magistrate Judge for that district since 1993. He first practiced law with the Law Offices of John Marin from 1974 to 1980, then as a solo practitioner from 1980 to 1991, and finally with the firm of Battaglia, Fitzpatrick & Battaglia from 1991 to 1993. He earned his J.D. in 1974 from the California Western School of Law and his B.A. in 1971 from United States International University.
Judge Davila is a nominee for U.S. District Court, Northern District of California. He presently serves as a judge on the Superior Court of California, which he has done since 2001. Before that, he spent 20 years as a trial lawyer, first as a Deputy Public Defender with the Santa Clara County Public Defender's Office and then in private practice at Davila & Polverino from 1998 to 2001. Judge Davila received his J.D. in 1979 from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and his B.A. in 1976 from the California State University at San Diego.
