DLA Piper announced that Kurt Ramlo has joined the firm?s Restructuring practice as of counsel in the Los Angeles office.

Ramlo provides restructuring advice to business organizations facing financial distress. His practice includes guiding organizations through out-of-court and Chapter 11 reorganizations, as well as related transactions and litigation. He routinely provides advice on structuring cutting-edge transactions on behalf of public and private debtors, foreign representatives, shareholders, plan sponsors, third-party acquirers, secured and unsecured creditors, creditors? committees, and postpetition lenders, as well as other restructuring professionals.

Previously, Ramlo worked for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP as Counsel. A former assistant US attorney, he also has extensive trial and commercial litigation experience in bankruptcy and federal district courts.

He received a J.D. from the University of California, Davis and a B.M., cum laude, from California State University, Northridge.

Lax & Stevens has announced that Michelle Carpenter is now an associate with the firm upon being admitted to the California State Bar earlier this month. Ms. Carpenter joined Lax & Stevens in July 2004 as a paralegal and litigation manager. She is experienced in various aspects of litigation from inception through trial, and has served as ?second chair? in bench and jury trials where she managed exhibits, scheduling of witnesses and preparation of pre-trial documents.

Ms. Carpenter received her Juris Doctor from California Southern Law School and her Bachelor?s in Criminal Justice from California State University, San Bernardino. She is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
