Sliming Competitors Behind Their Backs From "The Moral Pedestal"?

By John Darer

ADVERTISEMENTS

Admiral_of_the_narrow_seas_md_clrIn "Steamed Dumb-plings From Nashville ", this author questioned whether factoring intermediary and Society of Settlement Planners' Treasurer-elect,  Rhonda Bentzen was "a vice admiral of the narrow seas", an early 19th Century term used to to describe "one who pisses into his companion's shoes under the table". (Source: Wonder of Whiffling, Adam Jacot de Boinod)

In response Rhonda Bentzen admitted on March 4, 2010 that she has been "guilty of naming competitors on rare occasion in the past but have long since removed those posts after concluding that they lacked the professionalism I strive for".  She goes on to state, in writing "I stand on my own ethics and merit and don?t need to disparage my competitors to boost my ego or elevate my position.  Contrary to what the man who actually does piss on everyone (except lawyers and adjusters) claims, I see no ethical issue blogging about disagreeable industry practices without including the parties involved.  My opinion is that mentioning competitors just clouds the issue with subjectivity".

If one were to have put any credence into Ms. Bentzen's  March 4, 2010 chestnut,  then Ms. Bentzen has apparently changed her position.

On good information, in the course of doing business, Bentzen has cited the following examples of "how completely slimy the factoring companies" (she's worked for) "are" (in 2010):

  1. Ms. Bentzen is claiming she left Stone Street Capital because they didn't like her doing deals for a discount rate less than 19%.
  2. Ms. Bentzen is claiming to have taught Strategic Capital the business and had to leave because their rates were not competitive; that they are too small to be competitive in the marketplace
  3. Ms. Bentzen is claiming that "there are many ?tricks? that these companies will use to induce people, one of which is to take on a case at cost making sure that there is plenty of the deal left to go back to them at a later date and then making sure that they recoup their losses from the first transaction plus a ton!
  4. Ms. Bentzen  is telling people that the other participants in the factoring industry "will take a deal at a loss, in an attempt to make me (Bentzen) look bad, in order to steal a SS broker client away from me (Bentzen) but just know that once that happens their rates will sky rocket!"

Once again Bentzen has purportedly framed the above cited as examples of "how completely slimy these factoring companies are".

Ms. Bentzen has also repeatedly disparaged Andrew Cravenho, President of Settlement Quotes, LLC factoring exchange".  Yet on a May 2010 deal referred to Bentzen by a settlement planner Settlement Quotes, LLC beat her by 50% and is putting $40,000 more into the annuitant's pocket.  Here's Cravenho's response to Bentzen's silly rumors. The fact is that despite her rhetoric, Cravenho (and others) represent venerable competition to Rhonda Bentzen.

This author submits that the manner in which Bentzen chooses to make these statements indeed supports the label of a "vice admiral of the narrow seas".
