Recall to Repair Portable Playard Tent Prompted By Child's Death

By Chrissie Cole

ADVERTISEMENTS

Tots in Mind Inc., in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada (HC), have announced a voluntary recall of Cozy Indoor Portable Playard Tents Plus Cabana Kits.

The clips used to attach the tent to the playard can break or be removed, allowing the child to lift the tent and become entrapped between the frame and base of the tent, posing a strangulation hazard.

A two-year-old boy died in December 2008, in Maine, according to the agency, when he became entrapped between the payard frame and the metal base rod of the tent. In three other incidents, children were able to remove one or more clips posing a hazard but they were not injured.

The CPSC News Release includes photos of the recalled playards for your reference.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled tents and to contact Tots in Mind at (800) 626-0339 for free replacement clips. You can also visit their Web site at www.TotsinMind.com for more information.

You can request replacement clips on the TotsinMind Web site.
