: Fannie's RoomWhat's Next, Dogs as Scientists?!
By Fannie
To make a long story short, pseudonymous Vox Day whines about how Title IX has pretty much ruined college sports and that, similarly, Title IX is on the verge of ruining Teh Science. Don your tinfoil hat for this one folks because we all know where this argument is going: The feminist radical agenda will lead to more women in science which will lead to the Total and Utter Destruction of Western Society (TM).
Dun-dun-dun!
Day explains:
"Lush with their success in decimating the collegiate sports programs of America, the equalitarians have now set their sights on applying the infamous Title IX quotas to science education, despite the fact that women already earn 57 percent of bachelor's degrees, 59 percent of master's degrees and a majority of doctorates. If successful in this effort, and initial signs indicate that they probably will be, in 30 years, academic science in America will be no more intellectually respectable or relevant than womyn's studies are today."
It is at this point that I simply must note my theory that a man's hatred of strong women is directly proportional to whether or not he mocks the fact that some women take that "man" out of "woman" by calling themselves "womyn."
Anyway, Day's womyn-hatin' rant gets better:
"The idea of biology classes being taught by lesbian professors who believe that heterosexual procreation is a myth or calculus courses being taught by women who can't do long division may sound impossible today, but tell that to any software developer, and he'll be able to provide you with plenty of current examples of computer science engineers, some with advanced CS degrees, who have no idea how to even begin writing a computer program."
To me, this all sounds like a bunch of bullshit hearsay that, if true, is spouted only by Day's buddies who one time lost a job or promotion to a woman who was more qualified for it than they and who, in reality, did twice the work for half the recognition of the man who, nonetheless, felt entitled to his computer job just 'cuz he's a man.
But I digress. The key part follows. For, below, Day reveals what his rant is really about:
"Women love education; it's the actual application they don't particularly like. Whereas the first thought of a woman who enjoys the idea of painting is to take an art appreciation class, a similarly interested man is more likely to just pick up a paintbrush and paint something ? usually a naked woman."
Ah. In Day's utopia, women exist only as props for men to enjoy. Men are the subjects, women are the objects. And how dare any woman tread into the "male territory" of the public sphere filled with aspirations and hopes of their own.
As a crescendo, Day cannot help throwing in the "Liberals/Feminists Are Destroying Education and there is a Liberal/Feminist/Marxist Conspiracy in Academia" theory into his improvisation:
"It is written that "women ruin everything"; having destroyed the liberal arts, the classics and the pseudo-sciences, it is now abundantly clear that the more rigorous sciences are next on the equalitarians' destructive agenda. And so, in the not-too-distant future, two plus two will finally be determined to equal five if a women feels that it should, or at least it will as long as she happens to feel that way."
Ah, well done Day. Way to bring "Women's Education Will Cause Great Harm to Society" back. The 1800's called and they're missing their Great Harm Myth.
It's an old story that the only thing educated women really threaten are scared, insecure, and yes- stupid*- men like Day who require fewer people to compete against in the everyday competition of work, school, and life. Begin the countdown until the anti-feminists and "men's rights activists" pick this story up and start riffing off of it.
5....4....3...
Wait for it.... wait for it... annnnnd.... We can always count on Ol' Faithful "Fitz" to spout an incomprehensible mess of anti-feminism in the form of a poorly spelled and grammatically-iffy article about "woman and science." [Now, I can't tell if Fitz merely made a typo here, but at this point I should tell you my theory #2 about how to spot a misogynist: A man's hatred of women can also be measured by his use of the singular "woman" when speaking of all "women." It harkens back to the day when men used to say wonderful things like "Land, like woman, was meant to be possessed."]
If Day (and Fitz) proves anything in his article it's that, well, Day is sort of a case in point that some men are getting the shaft when it comes to education. In which case, I do agree with them on one thing: It's not fair that these special men have to compete against women. As it currently, stands, they're just relegated to laughable forums like WorldNetDaily and their own echo chambers. Goddess help them if they ever decide to compete against women within the normal bounds of logic and reason.
*Vox Day fancies himself to be super-duper smart. And, he did write a WorldNetDaily-exclusive book called The Irrational Atheist. As a note of surely unintentional irony, however, the book's jacket description instantaneously discredits it:
Day's point, I'm sure, is to present a David-versus-Goliath image of himself battling the big, bad, edu-ma-cated, liberal intelligentsia. But really, Day comes off as a delusional joke.
And then there's this braggy jacket quote:
"Vox Day treats atheist icons Dawkins, Harris and Hitchens the way Ann Coulter hammers liberals, only less gently." - Joseph Farah, WorldNetDaily
Ooh-hoo-hoo. So, he's pretty much a member of the Asinine for Attention Hate Club. He's a guy who, like Coulter, Limbaugh, and Ingraham try to profit off of the fact that hate sells. All of this means that, ultimately, he's a man who's doing far more harm to society and the "little people" than the liberals, atheists, and feminists he so loves to "demolish." KER-POW!
