Ortho Evra Patch Makes Today Show Appearance - And it Ain't Pretty

Kudos to the Today Show for their investigative piece today on Johnson & Johnson?s dangerous Ortho Evra birth control patch, which significantly increases the risks of blood clots and strokes in women. It?s as if The Bitterest Pill, the Center for Justice & Democracy?s study about dangerous drugs and devices for women (an issue we covered here), suddenly came to life on television, that?s how good a piece this was!

Public Citizen has been trying to get the patch off the market, but it is still being prescribed. We learned in this piece that Johnson & Johnson, who has known about these problems for years, has been quietly settling lawsuits involving this dangerous FDA-approved product, paying out $68 million to date, yet a pittance compared to the patch?s annual sales of $1.6 billion.

One mom, whose 17-year-old daughter died after using the patch, is refusing to settle and is demanding a public trial. We hope she gets before a jury soon. You can watch the whole thing here.
