: Eastern District of Texas Federal Court Practice"Marshall Law!?" - Houston Magazine
By Michael C. Smith
I highly recommend Houston magazine's article in the September 2010 issue Marshall Law!? It's high noon in rural East Texas, unlikely home of the feds' high-tech, high-stakes 'rocket docket' by Adam Piore, with a memorable illustration (left) by Christina Ung. No, that is the right magazine you just pulled up - this high-end fashion magazine is definitely the oddest place I have ever seen an article on the Eastern District, I have to admit. But I now know who to call in Houston for breast augmentation surgery, and I'll never look at a Bvlgari purse the same way again. I think I need to pick one up for Jamie...
Couple of corrections, though - there was actually a notable exception to the general observation that lawyers in federal court don't usually wear cowboy boots, and readers from the ED will know exactly who I'm referring to. And, while my grandmother did have a shop in downtown Marshall when I was growing up (clipping poodles) the store the writer is referring to was my grandfather's card store. Of course Marshall being Marshall, the one is at one end of the block my new offices are in, and the other was at the other end - even though one was my dad's mother and the other my mother's dad. Seriously - you could not get into trouble in this town growing up and both sides of your family not know it before you got home. The writer got that right.
