: GamePolitics.comTea Party Gets Policy Playbook, Rejects Net Neutrality
By james_fudge
Not that this is news to anyone that follows the policy positions of the Tea Party.. A new playbook for the Tea Party takes aim at net neutrality. Yesterday the Heartland Institute released a new manual called The Patriots Toolbox, a public policy guide on a number of issues that are key to conservatives. Among the issues detailed in this playbook, is a new section on net neutrality.
The main thrust of that section is that government regulation is a bad thing. Here's a quote that sums up the position of the Heartland Institute:
"A truly free and open Internet is one free of bureaucratic meddling and a top-down net neutrality regime."
It goes on to say that conservatives should oppose net neutrality regulations from the FCC. The Heartland Institute is a Chicago-based non-profit group that supports "free market thinking." Free Press, which is diametrically opposed to the group, says that it takes money from telecoms. The group does not deny that it takes corporate donations, but does not disclose its donors.
