Sheldon Sperling, the Eastern District of Oklahoma U.S. Attorney, is not certain of his next move, but enjoyed his tenure as top prosecutor, according to a profile in the Tulsa World Monday

Sheldon J. Sperling (DOJ)

Sperling has served as U.S. Attorney in the Muskogee-based district since 2001. His replacement, Mark Green, was confirmed by the Senate last month and will take over the office on Tuesday.

Before becoming U.S. Attorney, Sperling served as the office’s First Assistant U.S. Attorney for 11 years. He told the newspaper that his departure was not his choice.

“My retirement is involuntary, but my tenure was gratifying. I’m a very fortunate man. Everything that is important will still be here,” Sperling told the newspaper.

Sperling said he isn’t certain what he’ll do after his retirement. He considered running for the state Attorney General job, but told the newspaper that “things here did not align correctly.” He also asked Gov. Brad Henry (D) to be considered for a state judicial post, but the governor ultimately selected other candidates.
