ADVERTISEMENTS

Apparently, Wise Law Blog has won the bronze in the 2010 Canadian Blog Awards law blog category.
I'm happy for the recognition - truly happy - but I have to be honest, I'm also a bit ambivalent.
It's only October, which is awfully early in the season for this sort of thing. I'd like to think the best of 2010 is yet to come for Wise Law Blog and the rest of the increasingly dynamic Canadian legal blogosphere.
Frankly, I'm not entirely sure these "Awards" have been handled particularly well or transparently this year. Given the tiny tally of total votes cast, they surely cannot lay claim to any national scope whatsoever.
Beyond that, looking at the "blogroll" on the Awards site, I fear the Awards, which have always struck me as legitimate in previous years, have morphed at least partly into an SEO vehicle for a sponsoring Toronto law firm.
I'll display the Awards badge and chalk up some of these concerns to disorganization of the Awards operators, but to be blunt, there is much room for improvement in the management of these Canadian Blog Awards, or their credibility will not long survive.
