CAPE HATTERAS, N.C. - The Coast Guard says one of their rescue helicopter crew medevaced a 13-year-old boy off a cruise ship Saturday.
It happened approximately 40 miles northeast of Cape Hatteras.
Watchstanders say they got the call around 8 a.m. from the crew aboard the cruise ship Norwegian Jewel. They reported they had a teenage boy showing symptoms of acute appendicitis and that he needed medical attention.
A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C. was dispatched to the scene. They hoisted the boy and his mother off the cruise ship at 11:02 a.m.
They were then taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment.
