: Food Poison BlogHepatitis A vaccination clinics set up in Cabell-Huntington counties West Virginia
By Drew Falkenstein
After multiple confirmed cases of hepatitis A in the area, the Cabell-Huntington Health Department has contacted the 150-200 people exposed to the virus and urged them to attend a special vaccine clinic from noon to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at Milton Elementary School.
Five cases of hepatitis A have been reported in Eastern Cabell County in the month of December. The source of the illnesses, if there is indeed a single food item, is still being investigated, although it would seem that more has to be known about the source if the health department knows who to contact for vaccinations. The five cases include both adults and children. Everyone who was exposed to a confirmed case within the past two weeks has been contacted, a health department spokesperson said.
Notably, as we reported on December 5:
The Cabell County cluster (Cabell County borders eastern Kentucky) of illnesses is occurring very near to another cluster of hepatitis A illnesses in Ashland-Boyd County Kentucky, where today a sixth case of hepatitis A infection was reported.
No word as of yet, that we've seen, whether the West Virginia cases are linked to the Kentucky cases.
