ADVERTISEMENTS

Flight attendants ratify a four-year pact with Miami Air, and more news from the “Bargaining Digest Weekly.” The AFL-CIO Collective Bargaining Department delivers daily, bargaining-related news and research resources to more than 1,300 subscribers. SETTLEMENTS
AFA-CWA, Miami Air: Flight attendants at Miami Air last week ratified a four-year deal that improves wages, benefits and work rules. The contract comes after three years of negotiations between the Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA) and the charter airline.

WORK STOPPAGES
AFM, Detroit Symphony Orchestra: The strike by the musicians of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) continues, after they rejected a management proposal they say was worth $32 million over 40 months, rather than $36 million over 36 months, as had been suggested. The DSO says it will present the Detroit Federation of Musicians/AFM with another offer by Feb. 4.

USW, Vale Inco: The end to an 18-month strike could be in sight for members of United Steelworkers (USW) at a Vale nickel mine in Canada. With the help of a mediator, USW and Brazilian mining giant Vale reached a tentative agreement that the 130 workers will vote on this week.

NEGOTIATIONS
IAM, Harley-Davidson: Last Wednesday marked the official start of bargaining for Machinists (IAM) Local 176 in Kansas City and Harley-Davidson. The company has already warned that it could move the work done at the Kansas City plant to its facility in York, Pa., if it doesn’t get the kind of agreement it wants.

AFA-CWA, Spirit Airlines: Members of AFA-CWA at Spirit Airlines picketed outside of the airline’s headquarters in Miramar, Fla., last Wednesday. AFA-CWA, which represents nearly 700 flight attendants at the airline, has been in bargaining for a new contract since 2007.
