Are You Looking For A ?Killer Tax Attorney??

By Darrin Mish

ADVERTISEMENTS

I have this minor competitor, a CPA in another part of the country. He thinks that good marketing is to call himself the ?Killer IRS Tax Problems CPA.? Personally I think it?s juvenile and unprofessional. Why would I call a guy out on one of the most heavily visited websites on the topic of IRS Problems? Because he just won?t leave me alone.

Back in November 2010, he posted some blog comments on this very blog instructing visitors to visit his site because he was better, etc. I sent him an email and told him that I thought that that was a pretty lowbrow tactic. He advised that it was a mistake, and he apologized. Now I?m a pretty forgiving guy so I thought nothing more of it?.until today. Today I was alerted by YouTube that he was posting comments on my videos saying this, ?For a second opinion or free IRS advice under the "free advice" tab on our site, contact the Killer IRS CPA at XXX-XXX-XXXX or Google "Killer IRS?

If you want to do business with a guy like this go ahead. But I don?t think it?s very nice or very professional. That?s my opinion. My first thought was, ?why doesn?t this guy just do some really good informational YouTube videos answering some questions that his clients and prospects have?? It would be a whole lot better business plan and frankly put out much better karma.

The thing about the Internet is that everything we say or do is permanent. A lot of people don?t realize this. He?s running around telling people to avoid honest lawyers like myself instead of attacking the really big nationally advertised firms. Those firms don?t have great reputations and probably do take many clients? money without providing any services whatsoever. My point is that he has a scarcity mentality and thinks that he needs to scrape up every last client that he can. It?s sad actually. I personally wouldn?t want to hire a guy like that. We don?t take every client. Some just aren?t a very good fit. If we don?t think we can help you or think we can help you economically, than we just won?t take your case. Unhappy clients are not my cup of tea.

I?ve come to realize that when you do a really good job at anything; when you are at the top of your game; less capable people come out of the woodwork to attack you. Instead of honing their craft; instead of figuring out how to provide value to the marketplace; they run around disparaging you. I was raised by a single mother who cared deeply about raising her two children right. She taught me the difference between right and wrong.  She used to always tell me to ?play nice? and always do the right thing. These are lessons I try to teach my own small children every day.

By the way, I?m not a ?killer? tax attorney. That?s a juvenile designation and one I won?t use. What I do on a regular basis is get taxpayers with tax problems out of trouble with the IRS. I do it in a professional and dignified way. If you want something else, maybe the Killer CPA needs some work.
