When Democrats Attack

Posted on April 27, 2010
Indiana Democrats are pressing their attack on former U.S. Senator and Ambassador Dan Coats.  You can see it in their latest Internet ad. I doubt many Republican primary voters will see this, however I get the strange feeling they will starting May 5th if Coats is his party’s nominee.

Back to the Future

Posted on April 27, 2010
I originally wrote this blog post the day after the 2006 primary.  I thought it was pretty interesting  and worthy of re-posting.  Back then Indiana had 19% turnout for the election.  I find it fascinating that the more things change, the more they tend to stay the same...

Ihre Unterlagen Bitte , Teil 3

Posted on April 26, 2010
For the past few days, I’ve blogged about Arizona’s efforts to crackdown on illegal immigration.  Unfortunately, the state is violating the U.S. Constitution in the process.  So, how do you crack down on illegal immigration in a lawful, constitutional manner?  Easy...

Right to Life Aborts Behney Endorsement

Posted on April 26, 2010
There’s nothing like a play on words.  I got a news release this afternoon from Indiana Right to Life saying it’s rescinding its endorsement of  Republican U.S. Senate candidate Richard Behney. According to the release, Behney reportedly made some unflattering remarks about some of the organizations pro-life leadership… “One of the things I’m most disappointed about in [...

Sunday Morning Politics

Posted on April 25, 2010
Once again, I awake Sunday to lots of interesting political tidbits of gossip, rumor, inneundo, etc. etc.  So please allow me to share.  This information is a collection of what I garner from conversations and observations. And I  always say, take it for what it’s worth...

Put the Pacers in Perspective

Posted on April 24, 2010
There are a couple interesting columns in the print/on-line media this weekend regarding the Indiana Pacers.  On its editorial page the Indianapolis Star says there are a lot of questions that need to be answered before the city assumes operational control of Conseco Fieldhouse and Bill Benner opines in the IBJ how the Pacers leaving [...

Ihre Unterlagen Bitte , Teil 2

Posted on April 23, 2010
Yesterday, I gave a brief history of our American Immigration law.   In this post, we?ll talk about the legal aspects of Arizona?s immigration bill (now law) and why I believe it violates several areas of the Constitution.  In fact, I could argue the Arizona law violates the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution as well as [...

Indiana?s ?Race to the Top? is Over

Posted on April 22, 2010
Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Bennett told me this morning that the state is ending its pursuit for “Race to the Top”  funds.  “Race to the Top” is a federal program that provides up to $4 billion for states that implement reforms in their education system...

Ihre Unterlagen Bitte, Teil 1

Posted on April 22, 2010
That’s German for “Your Papers, Please.”  I also think it?s the new motto for the state of Arizona.  In an understandable but woefully misguided effort to crackdown on  illegal immigration, Arizona has gone just a bit too far, kind of like the Germans going into Gdansk...

Divided, They Fall

Posted on April 21, 2010
So four debates for the U.S. Senate to replace the seat being vacated by Evan Bayh and what’s changed?  To be frank, not a whole lot.   Everyone said what they’ve said before and no one really strayed from the script.  However, something did dawn on me between the end of the debate at Franklin College [...

City Unveils New Crime Strategy

Posted on April 20, 2010
Indianapolis Public Safety officials are unveiling a new strategy this morning in an effort to starve off a potential record homicide year (40-42 depending on how you do the math) and the perception of rising crime. The plan includes giving IMPD’s district commanders more authority to direct patrols and respond to challenges...

Political Potpourri

Posted on April 20, 2010
There was a lot going on politically Monday.  The candidates for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate debated at Franklin College.  If Franklin gets the debate up on its website, I’ll provide a link.  Not much changed since the first debate I moderated on April 8...

City $$$

Posted on April 19, 2010
The Ballard administration says the city’s finances are improving, even though Indianapolis faces declining revenues due to tax caps and declining revenues to local governments. City Controller Dave Reynolds says the Indianapolis can expect $25-30 million in less revenue for the 2011 budget...

Let The Record Show

Posted on April 18, 2010
Apparently a question in the comment section of my blog has raised quite a stir.    I asked Paul Ogden if he had ever been in court to defend himself against stalking allegations?  The led Ogden to go on a rant and accuse me of trying to attack him personally and said I had no facts [...

Friday Follies

Posted on April 16, 2010
The following is a list of all the little things I’ve been meaning to blog about this week, but didn’t get a chance to do so.   I’ll be doing some follow-up on these items next week. but for now they all fall into the category of good gossip, more and innuendo...

The Taxman Cometh

Posted on April 15, 2010
We all know today is April 15, which means it’s tax day.  Of course this is also the day we gripe, moan and complain about how much the government spends and takes from us.  And while I give people a few minutes to complain, I ask them to think for a second and ask themselves [...

Indiana Barrister Wins Professional Journalism Award

Posted on April 15, 2010
There’s nothing like a little recognition from your peers.  I received word this afternoon that Indiana Barrister has won the best Journalism Web Site award in Indiana from the Society of Professional Journalists.    I’m not all sure who entered but last year the award went to the Indianapolis Star and WTHR-TV came in second...

Who Wants to Write the Pacers a Reality Check?

Posted on April 14, 2010
The Indiana Pacers are sending their strongest signal yet that if the city of Indianapolis doesn’t come up with $15 million a year to take over the operational costs of Conseco Fieldhouse, they’ll leave and go to another city. In an interview with the Indianapolis Star, Pacers President Jim Morris said the team would look at [...

Murder He Wrote

Posted on April 13, 2010
I’ve been taking a look at the city’s homicide rates lately.  So far, Indianapolis is at 35 murders.  The official number is 36, however I don’t count police action shootings.   Out of the 35 murders, 30 were male, 14 were identified as African-American,  15 were under 30 and in almost all cases the murder weapon [...

On The Air

Posted on April 13, 2010
The Coats campaign just put out a news release saying they are going up on the air tomorrow and plan to be there through the primary. You can see the ad below.

And The Next Round Goes To?

Posted on April 12, 2010
The following is an analysis of the second U.S. Senate GOP debate that took place Saturday at IUPUI.  It was hosted, in part, by Hoosier Access.  It was written by Josh Gillespie. ****** Between Abdul?s debate on Thursday at the War Memorial and the Hoosier Access debate on Saturday at IUPUI, you probably didn?t think [...

They Still Don?t Get It

Posted on April 12, 2010
My patience for most local government in Indiana has pretty much run dry and two recent stories highlight that.  The Marion County Public Library has designated several libraries to close because of shrinking property tax revenue.  In addition, Marion County local governments are slated to lose about $79 million due to tax caps...

Sunday Morning Polling

Posted on April 11, 2010
After enjoying an awesome Saturday with the lovely Mrs. Shabazz, it’s time to get back to the political mill and post all my gossip, rumor and blatant innuendo that’s worth repeating.   The latest bit of news comes from the Republican race for the U...

And the First Round Goes To?

Posted on April 09, 2010
So who wins a debate when the candidates all pretty much say the same thing?  That was my biggest question walking away from Thursday’s debate at the Indiana War Memorial of the five Republican candidates vying for the U.S. Senate. On most matters, Dan Coats, Richard Behney, Don Bates, Jr...

The Fallout Continues

Posted on April 08, 2010
The last 24 hours have reminded me of the old saying  “may you live to see interesting times.”    Because looking at the lay of the political landscape here in Indianapolis, the times are interesting and Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi is at ground zero...

Do You Like to Watch?

Posted on April 08, 2010
I’m finishing up some last minute details for today’s debate of the Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate primary at the Indiana War Memorial. The pre-debate show begins at 3 p.m. while the actual debate runs from 4-5:30 p.m.  We’ll be streaming at our station’s website and you can catch audio and video at www...

Should He Stay or Should He Go?

Posted on April 07, 2010
I pose that question in conjunction with the latest news regarding Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi. Brizzi, who has already ready come under fire for relationship with embattled financier Tim Durham and questions regarding his support for the early release a woman whose father donated to his campaign, now finds a new controversy at his doorstep...

Dueling Lawyers

Posted on April 07, 2010
Marion County Prosecutor Republican candidate Mark Massa said today incumbent Carl Brizzi should step down due the recent controversies surrounding the office.  Below is Brizzi’s full response. I am shocked and surprised by today?s event, which appears to be politically motivated...

Posted on April 06, 2010
The Indianapolis City-County Council Monday approved the creation of two new charter schools.   The charters  are being created at the former St. Andrew /St. Rita & St. Anthony Catholic schools on the east side. The schools decided to convert to charters following a $2 million shortfall...
