Blawg of the Day -- Blogging at the Intersection of Archiving and eDiscovery
Posted on February 25, 2009This is not technically a law-related blog, but because it's connected to e-Discovery, I'm including it anyway. Blogging at the Intersection of Archiving and eDiscovery is published by Mimosa Systems, a vendor that provides email archiving systems. They describe what they're doing at the blog better than I could, so I'll let them say it: Who doesn't love a good lightbulb moment? If an idea or problem has been vaguely troubling, it's a joyful relief when the switch is thrown and everything becomes perfectly clear. Sometimes, all it takes to achieve such illumination is a fresh perspective, a precise example, or a revealing anecdote. That's just what our panel of insightful industry experts brings to this blog. Their views (and they are their views, not necessarily Mimosa's) will help to shed some light on various aspects of archiving and eDiscovery...

Blawg of the Day -- e-Discovery Insights
Posted on February 13, 2009One thing that I have learned from working in legal technology is the importance for legal and technology to work together to get things done. That's why I enjoy blogs like e-Discovery Insights, which is published by California attorney and Management and Technology Professional Perry Segal. He intends his blog to serve as a primary source of e-Discovery information and resources, with an emphasis on facilitating the relationship between legal and technology professionals.
Blawg of the Day -- Digital Advocate
Posted on February 12, 2009I don't get the point behind some "anonymous" blogs. I understand those bloggers who need to be anonymous because of work situations, but that does not appear to be the case with the Digital Advocate. Actually, I wouldn't have known who writes this blog if I hadn't noticed her name in the URL. Anyway, at her blog she's "contemplating the New Digital Order of Things on the Small Office and Solo Practitioner." She provides some great practice management tips, with a focus on technology.

Work on Gmail, Whether Online or Off
Posted on February 09, 2009I've been using Gmail for my personal email account for about 8 months now, and I love it -- it is far and away the best webmail tool out there. But one thing keeping it back is the lack of an archiving feature, to allow users to back up their email to a local file. But last week, Google fixed that by rolling out offline email. It uses the Google Gears tool to create an offline version of your email, so you can view and compose email when you don't have an Internet connection. Gmail will determine how much of your email to archive, depending on how much email you have online. Even if you don't need a way to access your mail offline, this is a great way to archive your email, in case something happens to go wrong with the online version. To enable Offline Gmail, you'll first need to download and install Google Gears (unless you are using Chrome as your browser, where it's already installed), and then go to Google Labs, and enable Offline Gmail...

Join Fios at LegalTech
Posted on February 01, 2009One of my favorite legal technology conferences, LegalTech, begins tomorrow in one of my favorite places, New York City. Unfortunately, I won't be able to be there this year, but that doesn't mean you can't see the exciting things my employer Fios is up to. We're' sponsoring the Corporate Counsel Track on Wednesday, February 4th, which features two great sessions. First up is "Managing e-Discovery in an Alternative Fee Environment." Designed in the town hall format, we'll be featuring attorneys and corporate counsel from a number of companies discussing opportunities for cost savings and building predictability when dealing with e-Discovery in this new age of alternative billing. The second session, "Let's Make a Deal," provides attendees with the opportunity to actively participate in a Rule 26(f) discovery conference...
