GOODBYE JOE

Posted on October 29, 2008
Wednesday: It's nice and cold again this morning. Our Favourite Federal Blogger has attacked us in a scathing front page frothing at the mouth fusillade full throated defense of Brendan Sullivan. Apparently Mr. Markus learned everything you need to know about waving your arms in closing from his former boss...

Brrrrrrr

Posted on October 28, 2008
Our first cold day of the Fall season. Wouldn't it have been great if the cold front had arrived Sunday morning? A crisp cool Sunday afternoon at Dolphin stadium, with brats and wings on the grill would have been a perfect compliment to that great Fin win...

Very touching and poignant comments remembering former ASA David Stern from yesterday's post. Go read them. It will make you feel better. The half way point of the NFL season. THE NY TIMES ENDORSES OBAMA

Posted on October 24, 2008
The title links to the full endorsement.Mr. Obama has met challenge after challenge, growing as a leader and putting real flesh on his early promises of hope and change. He has shown a cool head and sound judgment. We believe he has the will and the ability to forge the broad political consensus that is essential to finding solutions to this nation?s problems...

GENERAL POWELL SPEAKS

Posted on October 23, 2008
Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan is a Muslim.  He was killed in Iraq. One small important fact may change how you think of him. Kareen Rashad Sultan Khan was an American Solider killed in the line of duty. He received the purple heart and the bronze star. General Collin Powell saw a picture in the New Yorker magazine of Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan's mother with her face pressed up against the gravestone of her twenty year old son who will never turn twenty one...

IN DEFENSE OF DOUG CHUMBLEY

Posted on October 20, 2008
We received this email from FACDL member and Miami Lawyer Roy Wasson. It's worth reading:As those of you from South Florida know, circuit judge Doug Chumbley resigned last week as part of a plea deal after being accused of indecent exposure in a men?s restroom on the U...

WHEN CHARACTER WAS KING

Posted on October 20, 2008
We've criticised the Republican presidential ticket. But apparently we aren't the only ones to note the problems on the right. You want to know what Reagan conservatives think of VP Nominee Sarah Palin? You don't have to take it from us that Palin is a know-nothing caricature of a candidate...

REMOVAL

Posted on October 20, 2008
I was asked, and I agreed,  to remove the last post which was written by someone else in defense of Douglas Chumbley.  The comments were very favorable and well intentioned. However, they had unintended side effects and the author requested I remove them...

Posted on October 16, 2008
The title links to the NY Times  article stating  that the majority of mortgage fraud cases brought by the Justice Department have been in South Florida. On behalf of all the defense attorneys in Miami, let us be the first to say to the DOJ: "THANK YOU...

NFL WEEL 6

Posted on October 12, 2008
We start week six up a very respectable 740.  What to do, what to do?We like the Texans at home -3 and the under 45 against our Dolphins. Sorry Fins, it's strictly business. Texans -3 +100 and under 45 +100.  In fact, lets do an "IF" bet. IF Texans -3 (100) THEN under 45...

LETS GO TO TRIAL

Posted on October 10, 2008
UPDATE: ALASKA REPORT INDICATES GOV PALIN ABUSED HER POWERS. The NY Times article is here. The issue is not that she did this, it is that she is so simple minded that a petty dispute with a former brother-in-law occupied so much of her time. It is because she is not a deep thinker and does not view her office or any office other than a means to a personal end...

FIRST CRACK IN THE SYSTEM

Posted on October 08, 2008
Sometimes all it takes is one man or woman to stand up and say "no, this is wrong. I won't do it."Judge Thomas Remington of Okaloosa County is apparently that type of man. Presented with a plea deal in which a young woman with no prior record was going to enter a plea requiring him to impose the 25 year minimum mandatory for possession of hyrdocodone, the Judge said "no...

NFL WEEK FIVE

Posted on October 04, 2008
UPDATE: DOLPHINS WIN!!!!  And the total was under. Why don't I listen to myself? I wrote at the beginning of the season to bet the under until you couldn't store any more cash. Anyway, we won our Giants bet for 75 and we won our under bet in the Denver/Tampa game (easiest bet of the day) for 150 so that is a +225 and then we lost our sucker teaser bet when the Fins went under 36...

KARMA

THE ARMY OF THE POTOMAC AND SARAH PALIN

Posted on October 03, 2008
Governor Palin had a high school flashback when she repeatedly referred to the Commanding General in Afghanistan as "General McClellan".  General McClellan, as history buffs will remember,  was the commander of the Army of Potomac who promised President Lincoln so much, and to Lincoln's frustration, did so little, during the opening year of the Civil War...

WHY JURORS SHOULD KNOW THE PENALTY

Posted on October 02, 2008
DEBATE UPDATE: TAKE BIDEN - 14.5. Yes,  two touchdowns is a lot of points to give up. But this is like the Redskins playing FIU. One of them doesn't belong in the arena (hint: she's from Alaska.)The Miami Herald has the story of three federal jurors who were "intimidated" into a guilty verdict on the gun counts...
