Naughty Stuff

Posted on July 12, 2008
I could whine and moan about how much pain I?ve been in this week and how busy I am at work but instead I?m going to take a page out of Tranny Head?s book and talk about a fun-but-naughty topic. Hey, if she could take on pubes, I can take on sex toys...

Survived

Posted on July 08, 2008
I made it through my first day back at work. Returned to huge bombshells, an overflowing inbox and a ton of urgent tasks, but I didn’t panic. I did, however, leave early to take a nap. By 3 p.m. my side was killing me and the Advil/Tylenol alternating schedule just wasn’t doing [...

Day Laborer Rights

Posted on July 08, 2008
The Washington Post has an article today illustrating exactly the type of pro bono work I would want to take on after graduation. Many day laborers get swindled by employers who take them out and promise to pay them at the end of the week only to turn over a check with insufficient funds [...

Rising Interest in Immigration Law

Posted on July 07, 2008
The Washington Post has an article today on the increasing interest in immigration law courses. Although many students are taking classes and clinics, most won’t become practitioners. Like me, they seem to realize that there are less heartbreaking/more lucrative law jobs and that it makes more sense to take immigration cases on the [...

Monday again

Posted on July 07, 2008
It’s almost 1 a.m. and I cannot sleep. That’s because I slept way too much today. Woke up at 9 a.m. in pain. Chapin took Pumpkinhead downstairs and made us all breakfast. I took a pain pill, ate an egg and half a bagel, and, at 10:15, told Chapin I was [...

Weekly MILP Roundup #53

Posted on July 07, 2008
This week’s roundup is up at A Little Fish in Law School. The Weekly MILP (Moms in the Legal Profession) Roundup is the brainchild of Saramel (retired). It is hosted on a rotating basis at the PT-LawMom, A New Duck and A Little Fish in Law School blogs and is usually posted no later than Monday [...

Busted?

Posted on July 01, 2008
With all the crapola that has happened in the last year, I am pretty much expecting that classmates are reading my blog now and I’m soon to be exposed. The hits from my particular town and surrounding areas are up. And, unfortunately, with my recent absence from class it would be very, very [...

Vote for the Party with Your Best Interests at Heart

Posted on July 01, 2008
I just had to share this. Hat tip to Casey for the great find. Man, this almost swayed me over to their side. I have spent many years living in very liberal areas. Now I live in a Red state and I sometimes forget how conservative (and bible-beating) many people around may be...

Answered Prayers

Posted on July 01, 2008
The Dean changed her mind and is allowing me to take an incomplete for the second class. This is the best of all worlds because the classes are now pre-paid (tuition increases are coming this fall) and I can retake one next spring and the other next summer...

Random Thoughts

Posted on June 30, 2008
Tomorrow is my 8th wedding anniversary. I wonder if Chapin will remember that. He’s gone back to alternating between asking if I’m sure I want the divorce and then telling me I’d better be sure I’m ready to live with the consequences of losing him...

Different Answers?

Posted on June 30, 2008
Had a little cry session with my Mom today and I think we’ve figured out some different ideas. 1. Fire nanny and put Pumpkinhead in YMCA day camp from 9 - 4:30 weekdays 2. Clear house of contents into nearby storage facility 3. Put house on market 4...

The Dean tells me that I have the option of withdrawing from my second summer class. BUT I would have to return all summer aid to the lender and pay out-of-pocket for the first class. Damn it. I figured that was the answer. After three weeks of unpaid time off work [...

Breathing in and out

Posted on June 28, 2008
I am trying to sit here at home and distract myself from my life. Unfortunately I have Chapin planning to leave the country for a few weeks and asking me, again, if I’m sure I want to move forward with the divorce. I have a whole law school class down the drain and [...

Getting sprung

Posted on June 26, 2008
After almost two weeks in this place, the doctors are planning to spring me tomorrow. At least I hope so. I have four teams — GI, Internal Medicine, Infectious Disease and Surgery — and they all have to agree to discharge me. Plus this PIC line goes from my bicep into the [...

Ow

Posted on June 25, 2008
Well I’m cut from under my right breast down to where my ribcage ends. I was in surgery for almost three hours and then in recovery for another three. I managed to get up and walk last night (speeds recovery), but only about 20 feet and back. My Mom stayed the night with me [...

Under the Knife

Posted on June 23, 2008
I’ve spent the last week being poked, prodded and probed. I’ve been through FOUR IVs (damn nausea medication burns my veins) and every scan they could think of (two CT scans, a HIDA scan, an MRI and a Colonoscopy). Finally they’ve decided to take me to surgery and remove my gallbladder tomorrow morning...

Waiting Game

Posted on June 21, 2008
Had the colonoscopy today. OW! Because of my stupid hypotension (wicked low BP - 72/50), they couldn’t give me the normal anesthesia. I had to stay awake through it and that was soooo unpleasant. Bleech. But I got through it and the official diagnosis is IBS...

Latest update

Posted on June 19, 2008
It looks like I will be in here through Sunday. I did the nasty barium swallow test today and laid there for two hours while they took periodic x-rays to check the progress. Unfortunately I still had contrast in my system even after last nights cleanout...

Waiting Game

Posted on June 18, 2008
Still waiting. Had the EGD this morning and they found an abrasion where my esophagus meets my stomach, but don’t think that is the problem. They tried to do the small bowel follow-through test but found that I still had a ton of contrast in my system from Wednesday...

Untied

Posted on June 17, 2008
Thanks to all of you who prayed or sent positive energy my way. The good news is that the intussusception has unknotted itself for now. They tried some nasty-tasting drinks to help calm/soften the intestines and apparently it worked. However, the theory is that it might be forming/unforming (hence the pain last [...

Seriously? Seriously! WTF?!?!

Posted on June 16, 2008
1. This post is totally going to blow any shred of anonymity remaining. 2. My readers are going to think I’m totally full of shit because no one’s life is this drama-filled. Remember the pain I had last week? Yeah, not an ulcer. Pain waned a bit then returned with a force at [...

Over and done

Posted on June 14, 2008
Chapin signed the papers. I honestly can’t believe it! We spent about two hours going through every part of it (I wanted to be 100% sure he understood what he was signing). Then he threw the papers across the room and begged me to give him another chance...

TGIF

Posted on June 13, 2008
Well, it’s Thursday night and I’ve made it through the week so far. Can’t sleep and wake up several times in the night but am doing well otherwise. Tomorrow I have an appointment with my neurologist for a med check. I’ve been doing well on the Cymbalta so far (knock wood!) with only some [...

Lisa Belkin has another excellent

Posted on June 12, 2008
Lisa Belkin has another excellent piece in the New York Times that profiles parents who have truly embraced the idea of equally split parenting. The parents she profiles truly believe that neither partner should sacrifice their job, time with the kids, etc...

Note to self: Heed the warning labels

Posted on June 11, 2008
I’m one of those people who takes warning labels with a grain of salt, figuring they are over-blowing things due to fear of litigation. Apparently this is not the case with the Cymbalta warning: “Do NOT drink alcohol while on this medication...

Plague, pestilence and…?

Posted on June 10, 2008
That’ll teach me to write an upbeat post. This day has sucked. Got stopped for speeding on the way to work - 66 in a 50. Fortunately (ha) someone had an accident so he let me go with a warning. Then my nanny disappeared. She was supposed to [...

Quick update post

Posted on June 10, 2008
Damn blog has been broken for two days but has finally settled down. Final divorce papers drawn up and ready for signature! Chapin promises to sign and then will be leaving the country for a few weeks to “recover”. We’ll see… Saw Kung Fu Panda - really cute and funny...
