Doodle for Google is a competition started by Google for K-12 students to play around with the infamous homepage logo and see what new designs they create. This year, Google invited U.S. kids to join in the doodling fun, around the intriguing theme “What I Wish for the World.” Both our country and the world are undergoing significant change and Google believes in thinking big and dreaming big, so their main goal with the competition is to encourage students to do the same.
Now, approximately 400 doodles from across the country have been chosen by a panel of independent judges and Google employees based on which doodles they feel best represent the “What I Wish for the World” theme. To ensure that each state was equally represented two doodles were selected in each grade group in each state. Entries from the District of Columbia were judged along with entries from Maryland.
And Google needs your help to select the winners of the Doodle for Google contest. The National Winner will have their logo featured on the Google homepage in addition to receiving a $15,000 college scholarship to be used at the school of their choice, a trip to the Google New York Office, a laptop computer, and a t-shirt printed with their doodle. Additionally, the National Winner’s school will receive a $25,000 technology grant towards the establishment/improvement of a computer lab.
This year Google added a new District Quality Participation Prize in the amount of $10,000 to the school district that most encourages high-quality participation from its schools. The District Quality Participation Prize will also be a grant that goes towards the establishment/improvement of a computer lab.
Check and see who the winners are for your state and vote for the doodles in each grade level category: K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. Voting for the winning entries closes May 18. BoardBuzz can’t wait to see which of these talented young artists will win the prize!
