The Center for Public Education is really on top of the news this week. Have you read about the “Race to the Top” initiative, with both President Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan strongly suggesting school districts consider performance-based pay (if not, check out BoardBuzz’s take here)? The Center’s latest post to the Edifier blog examines whether performance-based plans work – and why.
And did you catch The New York Times article about independent college counselors, who can charge thousands of dollars to advise a high school senior on getting into his or her top choice? Don’t blow your top yet — wait for the Center’s upcoming report, which will investigate if it’s really gotten harder to get into college.
Finally, check out the Center for guidance on homework policies and a bit of explanation about why test scores gains should be trusted.
