: BoardBuzz: NSBA's Daily WeblogIt's a wrap -- electorally speaking
With all the states now filled in on the electoral map, what do the results portend for education?
In a statement congratulating Senator Barack Obama on his historic victory, NSBA Executive Director Anne L. Bryant said: "We look forward to actively supporting President-elect Obama and his Transition Team in laying out a vision for education that conveys to the American people a new role for the Federal Government that will enable states and local communities to successfully fulfill their responsibilities in ensuring that all students are college and career ready." Bryant also noted President-elect Obama's support in particular for parental involvement, pre-kindergarten and teacher quality.
Discussion may also focus on a reshaping of the federal role in education to fully address 21st century challenges. "We're excited about President-elect Obama's agenda; we think he presents a compelling and strong commitment to education and are looking forward to the opportunity to work with him to make the federal role more successful in providing our nation's students with a 21st century education," Michael A. Resnick, NSBA associate executive director, told eSchool News.
Wonder what else may be on the agenda? Check out "After the Election: The Education Angle," an online Education Week discussion tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 7 at noon eastern.
One more election item that caught our eye: USA TODAY's Greg Toppo in a report on classroom political discussions notes more high school seniors were eligible to vote this year than ever before.
