: Illinois Nursing Home Abuse BlogIllinois Nursing Homes Faces Investigation
By Levin & Perconti
A Jacksonville, Illinois nursing home is alleged to have failed to keep six residents from being mentally, verbally or physically abused. This has prompted $20,000 in fines and a nursing home negligence investigation by the state?s attorney?s office. The Illinois Department of Public Health levied the fine against the Golden Moments Senior Care Center after the nursing home told the state about ascertains against a former employee. One of these allegations was that a resident was abused when staff forcefully held him down and threatened to cut this throat, causing home to cry. Another resident was abused when staff took away her fingernail polish and food and slapped her in the face. Some residents told investigators that their food or drinks were taken and thrown away or locked up. Some staff members recorded themselves making fun of residents. Two employees were fired over the nursing home abuse. The state investigation shows that 57 residents at the facility complained for at least two weeks to other employees about the nursing home abuse. Also inspectors noted that there were housekeeping and maintenance issues at the nursing home and that the nursing home did not have a registered nurse on duty for eight hours seven days a week. Golden Moments Senior Care Center is rated a ?one? on a scale of ?one? to ?five? by U.S. News and World Report. To read more about the Illinois nursing home abuse, please click the link.
