Brandy Flask Could Leach Lead

By Dan Flynn and Suzanna Schreck

ADVERTISEMENTS
E&J Brandy or any other liquid that has been kept in a special stainless steel gift-set flask should not be consumed, the company warned this week.
E&J of Rosevillle, CA. said it was recalling the stainless steel flasks sold from 2006 through 2010 in its VSOP gift sets and  in 2006  in its XO gift sets because laboratory tests revealed that brandy stored in the flask under certain conditions might contain elevated levels of lead.
Prolonged exposure to elevated levels of lead can have negative health effects.
The affected flasks included in the 2006-2010 E&J VSOP gift sets are silver, rectangular in shape and have "E&J VSOP" etched on the front.
The affected flasks included in the 2006 E&J XO gift sets are silver and round in shape with "E&J" etched on the front.
These gift sets were sold throughout the United States through a variety of retail stores as recently as this past holiday season.  Some flasks in leather cases were also given away as promotional items in 2007.
Consumers with the recalled stainless steel flasks should call the company's recall hotline at 1-866-959-8477 at any time for instructions on how to return the product and receive a full refund.
E&J's brandy is not part of the recall and the bottled brandy contained in the gift set is unaffected and may be safely consumed, so long as it was not stored in the flask. ?
