: Lenz BlogVenezuala GSP+ Status Revoked
By Karl-Friedrich Lenz
by Commission decision 2009/454 of 11 June 2009 for the reason of not having ratified the United Nations Convention against Corruption. That Convention is listed in the Annex of Regulation 732/2008 as one of the requirements for GSP+ preferential treatment.
That Regulation provides for access to the EU market at zero Common Tariff Duties. In exchange, countries wishing to receive that preferential treatment are required to ratify a list of 27 international Conventions, listed under the headings of “Core human and labour rights UN/ILO Conventions” and “Conventions related to the environment and to governance principles”. With this instrument, the EU uses preferential market access as an incentive for human rights and environment protection world wide.
