ADVERTISEMENTS
Gov Patterson- time to bid a fond farewell?let?s hope that Richard Ravitch is physically strong enough to finish out the next 10 months, while all of us on Wall Street hope that young Mr. Cuomo can figure out how to appease New Yorkers that he?ll be vying for the Governorship, yet somehow remain an un-conflicted Attorney General in the interim.
Health Care: For those that haven?t completely abandoned the NY Times, whether because its reporting has deteriorated to the point where it seems as though most of the content is provided by anonymous bloggers, or because they?ve raised the prices so much that its become an unaffordable piece of entertainment, there?s a compelling op-ed in the Sunday edition that chastises those that actually think ?lets just keep the healthcare system the way it is..?
Any halfwit, including, me, Dimes DiPascali, can tell you that the US health care system is broken, and that increasing costs for insurance, and the cost of actual healthcare services are going to continue to escalate in double digits, until only a few people can afford to have any reasonable insurance, or any reasonable quality of health care. Which perhaps isn?t a bad thing; if we shorten the average life span, and allow the population to naturally decrease (instead of continuously increasing), we?ll have less demand for energy, lower imports, and therefore a better trade balance, and we won?t have to budget nearly as much for education.
Nobody likes change, nobody likes uncertainty, especially when it comes to the cost of health care. By the certainty of a train wreck vs. the prospect of introducing practical fixes, that can be practically modified when it becomes clear those fixes aren?t working as well as expected is a whole lot better than the prospects we?re facing now. What? None of you have received notices that your health care coverage has just increased anywhere from 10% to as much as 50% more than what you were paying last year?? Oh?that?s right, elected government officials benefit from government-sponsored health care plans.
Terrorist trials: Why do we need to demonstrate to the world that democracy means that everyone is innocent until proven guilty by a jury of their ?peers?-or at worst, a military tribunal?
First of all, these terrorists aren?t ever going to have a juror that?s jihadist. So, the ?jury of peers? and ?equal justice? jibber jabber makes no sense. Second?we (that?s right, its taxpayer dollars that pays for these things) simply can?t afford to be forking over tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars to stage trials for some camel jockeys, just to show the world that we maintain basic principles of human decency and fairness.
Here?s my stick and carrot philosophy?beat the few imprisoned terrorists to death with a $10 baseball bat, and send millions of carrots to the poor, uneducated and starving places where the people might actually appreciate the gesture of free food, and then they?ll have the strength of body and mind to consider the benefits of democratic societies. You know, the kind of democracies in which corporations can hand pick ?elected government officials?, i.e. the people responsible for introducing and voting on legislation that effects business, banking and ultimately, the impact on individual citizens.
As long as we?re talking about terrorist trials-lets talk about foreign affairs. If only half of our elected officials would engage in affairs with people of influence in other countries, as opposed to having affairs with neighbor?s wives, staff members, lobbyists, and strange men in airport bathrooms, we?d be much better off.
And, while we're on the subject of looking under rugs and underneath car hoods, this guy needs to get a dose or reality! Who would give a rat's ass about him??
