ADVERTISEMENTS

My friend and former colleague -- also Dean of Boston College's law school and former President of the AALS -- John Garvey has been named President of the Catholic University of America.  This is, I believe, a truly (i.e., "literally") inspired choice.  John is a person of many gifts, including his vision regarding the importance (and the challenges associated with) Catholic higher education.  He's also (IMHO) among the most interesting law-and-religion scholars in the field.  This seems a good occasion to buy and read -- if you haven't already -- his book, "What Are Freedoms For?".  Get it here.
