So what happens on a law firm’s last day?
At Howrey, according to this story over at the BLT Blog, not all that much.
Some firm employees gathered for an “informal, low-key” get-together Tuesday afternoon. Otherwise, there was no formal ceremony or anything. Howrey spokeswoman Chris Till described the mood as both “tense” and “very sad.”
Last week, Howrey sent letters to employees giving advance notice of impending layoffs. Employees who do not find new jobs will be paid until May 9.
Wednesday morning, Baker Botts announced that the “core” of the antitrust practice from Howrey would move to the firm. It’s a big move — 32 lawyers in all, and 9 partners. Howrey’s antitrust department was long considered one of the firm’s strongest, and among the best antitrust departments in the country.
In other news of Howrey moves: Martin Cunniff, co-chairman of Howrey's commercial litigation and trial group, has joined Arent Fox as a partner. Dewey & LeBoeuf announced Tuesday it was adding two antitrust partners and one counsel from Howrey.
