: Law Blog - WSJ.comLitigation Machine Dov Charney Hit With Two More Suits
By Dionne Searcey
Dov Charney, the American Apparel chief executive famous for holding meetings in his bedroom and hosting employee sleepovers, has been sued for the second time – this month.
In the most recent suit, a 19-year-old former American Apparel sales associate alleged she was sexually harassed after she had left the company and went to Charney's home to inquire about modeling opportunities.
You can read more about the suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, in this New York Times story.
The suit names three other women who didn't publicly disclose the nature of their complaints because they signed confidentiality agreements, the NYT said.
America Apparel requires all its employees to sign arbitration and confidentiality agreements when they are hired, the story said.
Charney's lawyer called the claims "contrived" and "a shake down."
Requiring employees to sign arbitration agreements is quite commonplace, but a confidentiality agreement for a store clerk is a bit odd, the NYT reported.
Charney has been sued at least four times in recent years having been accused of creating a sexually charged and hostile work environment.
In the most recent suit, the former employee said she was sexually assaulted during what she believed to be a hiring interview at Charney's home, according to this LA Times story. The suit also accuses Charney of sending her sexual text messages.
More details from the suit and past ones that aren't appropriate for this family law blog are here.
