Get Your Ozark Hellbender While You Still Can!

No, an "Ozark Hellbender" is not a motorcycle or a specialty cocktail. It's a salamander. And the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says it's an endangered species. Courthouse News reported yesterday on the FWS proposal to list Hellbenders as endangered, and a related proposal to add the species to Appendix III of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. This would require all countries that signed on to the convention to track any trade in the animal. Hellbenders are reportedly popular pets -- and are also eaten and used in medicine -- in Asia. That guy does look kind of cute. And delicious.
