: Legal Blog WatchI'm Sorry I Tripped and Ripped Your $130 Million Picasso, Part 3
By Bruce Carton
ADVERTISEMENTS
You may recall the befuddling incident back in January when a balance-challenged woman walking careening through the Metropolitan Museum of Art stumbled into Picasso's The Actor painting, causing a six-inch tear resulting in an estimated $65 million in damage. (Mom? Is that you?). As I wrote at the time, the most baffling part of the whole story to me was the fact that the Met would place an unprotected painting valued at $130 million in a location where clumsy people posed a threat to it. I mean, my kids have baseball cards stored in thin plastic sleeves that are better protected than The Actor! Happily, the Met appears to read Legal Blog Watch and is not too proud to accept art preservation tips from law bloggers. Vanity Fair reports that "after three months of conservation, the painting -- newly protected by a plexiglass plate -- has returned to its old spot on the wall." VF adds that "by all accounts, it?s been restored to look just like its old, ?prelapsarian? self."Full post as published by Legal Blog Watch on May 07, 2010 (boomark / email).
