Tuesday in San Fran: Jason Giambi Takes a Swing Bonds?s Way

By Ashby Jones

ADVERTISEMENTS

giambiThe testimony out at the Barry Bonds perjury trial got a little more star-studded on Tuesday, when Colorado Rockie Jason Giambi* took the stand.

Giambi testified that he got performance-enhancing drugs from Greg Anderson, Bonds’s trainer. Click here for the Bloomberg story.

According to the Bloomberg account, Giambi said he met Anderson in 2002 and Anderson sent him a kit of testosterone, syringes and calendars to instruct Giambi on when to take the drugs.

A month after getting the first package from Anderson, Giambi received a second shipment containing some pills and designer steroids called the "Clear" and the "Cream," he said.

"I took it as very secretive to get your hands on it and be quiet about it," Giambi said.

Giambi’s brother, Jeremy, was also on today's witness list.

* Fun fact about Jason Giambi: Of all the great teams he’s played on, arguably the most impressive was his 1989 team from South Hills High School in West Covina, Calif. That team featured four future major leaguers: Giambi, Shawn Wooten, Cory Lidle, and Aaron Small, three of whom later played for the Yankees. The team (somehow) lost in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) semifinals.
